1. Purpose of the Scientific Committee
The Scientific Committee members provide scientific leadership of the AKTN achieved through:
- Peer review of proposals submitted by the kidney care community
- Facilitation of research projects through collaboration with the kidney care community
- Membership of sub-speciality working groups for the generation of research ideas
- Participation in priority setting activities to guide the AKTN’s research agenda
- Promotion of the AKTN at Scientific Meetings and Conferences
2. Terms of reference for the Scientific Committee Chair
The Chair:
- is appointed for a term of 3 years, with an option to renew for a further 3 years
- is a member of the AKTN’s Executive Operations Secretariat (EOS)
- leads the meetings and activities of the Committee
- represents the Committee at national and international meetings
3. Terms of reference for the Scientific Committee Deputy Chair
The Deputy Chair:
- is appointed for a term of 3 years, with an option to renew for a further 3 years
- is a member of the AKTN’s Executive Operations Secretariat (EOS)
- will be invited to assume the position of Chair
- permanently when the current Chair steps down (as agreed to by the EOS)
- temporarily when the current Chair is unavailable
- represents the Committee at national and international meetings
4. Attributes of the Scientific Committee leaders
- Possess well developed communication and leadership skills
- Have a track record of significant research output and expertise relevant to Clinical Trials
- Be familiar with the AKTN and its operational and governance processes
5. Benefits of AKTN Committee membership
- Involvement with AKTN research
- Have input into the scientific direction of the AKTN
- Publication and presentation opportunities

Nominations will be considered by current Scientific Committee members, and successful members appointed by majority vote.
